Lots going on in this beautiful home. Some highlights are the two gas fire places, both with fir mantles, the large walk in shower with pebble floor, lots of trim detailing, pine doors, a modern chandelier, tongue and groove wood in the bathroom and bedroom, and a cherry wood and iron railing going in down the stairs. We are pushing hard to get the clients moved in just in time for Christmas. Cabinets and countertops installed next.

This isn’t typically the type of post we would do but as I was learning how to do this I was scouring the internet for some tips on how to get this type of finish and there really wasn’t much help so maybe this will help someone else out there. So this is how I personally get a beautiful satin finish on wood doors. This is the 3rd home we have done this on with excellent results.
After staining I wipe all the doors down with denatured alcohol to clean the excess stain after drying. Then I start spraying with a 1.30 air cap on my @sagolaofficial 4600 Xtreme. I typically run this around 1.5 bar (sorry I get my guns from @spraygunsdirect in the UK so they aren’t in PSI). This is a really heavy coat of clear. This gun sprays really fast so it lays it really well.
I sand that almost through the finish using wet sand paper on a @festool Delta. This basically eliminates any issues with the grain raising or any of the “first coat” problems you can have using a water based clear that can leave it really rough.
I switch guns to a @devilbiss_refinish DV1 with a C1 clear cap and spray another quite heavy coat at 1.4 bar. This gun lays an incredibly flat finish and works really well to get the majority of your finish on.
This time I hand sand all the doors using a block and wet sand paper again as to not scratch the finish. This is the most tedious part of the job and takes quite a long time to get into every groove. Each time i sand I make sure to completely wipe the door again to remove any dust on the surface. I’ll typically blow these off at the same time.
Lastly I run a 1.4 air cap on a @sata_global 5000 hvlp with the nozzle wide open for a really wide fan. This is a super light coat to leave it just glossy. I won’t re sand this coat so I run this gun at 22psi so it essentially dries on site as it sprays. It leaves it with an absolutely gorgeous shimmer coat.
You could honestly run any one of these guns and do the entire job. I run my compressor at 40psi at the regulator and have individual regulators at the gun.
Each door takes approximately 2-2.5 hours each start to finish (over a couple days) but you can really get outstanding results like this.
Sometimes we just get a really unique job that is so rewarding. This old windmill has been decommissioned for 30 years and has spent the last 10 years laying down out in the back yard. We built some new legs for it, poured a new pad, bent all the fins and the turbine wheel back to straight, and here she is to live another day. The bullet holes in the fins and tail piece remind you of all the kids that watched this as they grew up through the years. We had just built a new building for this client but I think they were more excited to see this spinning again than anything else. It’s pretty neat to be able to preserve a piece of family history for the next generation.

We had the unique opportunity to adapt a gazebo this week that we built back in 2017. Originally it was designed around the raised flower beds but our clients wanted to have the ability to screen it off for bugs, so we built this amazing round wall and capped it with a beautiful flat stone design. There will be a custom round track all the way around the top that will allow us to run a bug screen and even close it off in the winter if needed.
